Anja Huwe / Xmal Deutschland – Sonic Morgue + Das Kinn
Anja Huwe
After two euphorically acclaimed concerts at Berlin’s Volksbühne, Anja Huwe returns to the city once more with Xmal Deutschland. On September 20, 2026, she will perform an exclusive show at Silent Green, presented as part of the Sonic Morgue concert series.
Xmal Deutschland are among the most influential German bands of the early 1980s. With their unique blend of post-punk, gothic intensity, and avant-garde austerity, they left a lasting mark on the international underground. Albums such as Fetisch (1983) and Tocsin (1984), released on the legendary 4AD label, brought the band recognition far beyond Germany. At the center was always Anja Huwe’s distinctive voice—cool, piercing, and unmistakable to this day.
After decades of silence, Xmal Deutschland’s work has experienced a remarkable renaissance in recent years. Extensive reissues, including the widely acclaimed box set Gift: The 4AD Years, along with Anja Huwe’s artistic comeback, have brought the band back into the international spotlight. With her 2024 solo album CODES, Huwe bridged past and present, powerfully demonstrating how timeless her aesthetic remains.
The recent Berlin concerts at the Volksbühne strikingly confirmed this continued relevance: atmospherically dense, emotionally intense. Not a nostalgic retrospective, but a focused, contemporary live experience—classic Xmal Deutschland songs placed in a new context, interwoven with Anja Huwe’s current artistic work.
Das Kinn
With his first full-length album Ruinenkampf, Das Kinn embarks on a musical tour de force through the ruins of our time.
An electronic armada and kickbox-phonetics lead us through haunting
soundscapes somewhere between DAF, Kosmische Kuriere and Frankfurt
Bahnhofsviertel.
Beats on full blast. Bones rattle. Warm synthlines played by cold hands.
A saxophone ponders the after.
Hymns for the demolition. Sonic meditations on decay.
Music for the solemn decline.
For almost two decades, sound activist Toben Piel has been emitting knocking
signs and signal sounds from the catacombs around the bank towers of Frankfurt/Germany. As part of the music-performance duo Les Trucs, as co-founder of the tape label MMODEMM and with works for theater and radio.
