Arsenal: Mein Leben Teil 2 – audio version without images

Listening Session + Talk

Angelika Levi’s film MEIN LEBEN TEIL 2 (Germany, 2003) was given an audio description as part of its digital restoration in 2021. Audio descriptions are, on the one hand, an essential component of accessibility and inclusion, but they are also an art form in their own right.

In MEIN LEBEN TEIL 2, Angelika Levi uncovers layers of her family history, beginning with her mother Ursula Levi, born in 1926, who survived the war in Germany as a so-called “half-Jew” together with her mother and brother. In addition to spoken words, a wide range of materials serve as carriers of memory: audio cassettes, 16 mm and Super 8 home movies, digital footage, photographs, letters, diaries and notes, a cup, pressed plants.

Arsenal invites visitors to listen to MEIN LEBEN TEIL 2 in its audio version without images and to let inner images emerge.

A conversation with Angelika Levi and additional guests about the listening experience and the creation of audio descriptions will follow.
