Book premiere GAVDOS with Tomer Dotan-Dreyfus

Celebrate the book launch of Gavdos, the second novel by Tomer Dotan-Dreyfus, with us. Featuring music by Fabian Saul.

What if a group of scientists were convinced that they had overcome death? And what if a journalistic investigation turned into a journey to the very edge of reality?

With Gavdos, Tomer Dotan-Dreyfus presents his new novel: intelligent, humorous, and full of unexpected encounters. On a remote Greek island, a journalist comes across a mysterious commune, an enigmatic opera singer, an Orthodox priest, a German avant-garde poet, enlightened dropouts, and a great many goats. The longer he stays, the more the boundaries between reportage, myth, and imagination begin to blur.

Following his debut Birobidzhan, which was nominated for the German Book Prize, Dotan-Dreyfus once again invites readers into a literary universe that combines philosophical questions with wit, narrative lightness, and a great joy in digression. At the book launch, the author will read from Gavdos and talk about writing, immortality, community, and the art of losing oneself in stories.

Born in Haifa in 1987, Tomer Dotan-Dreyfus has lived in Berlin since 2011, where he works as a freelance writer, poet, and translator. He studied philosophy and comparative literature in Berlin, Vienna, and Paris, and writes in both Hebrew and German. His essay collection Meine Forschung zum O was published by Gans Verlag Berlin in 2022. His debut novel, Birobidschan (Voland & Quist, 2023), was nominated for the 2023 German Book Prize. In 2025, his essay Keinheimisch was published by Ullstein. He received, among other honors, the Sulzbach-Rosenberg Tower Fellowship while working on Gavdos.
