Patrick Watson – Zusatzshow
Montreal-based songwriter Patrick Watson is probably familiar to everyone by now, at least since his song Je te laisserai des mots went viral on TikTok. With lots of piano, a great band, and his crystal-clear, melancholic voice, he gave everyone goosebumps. Watson loves being able to play live again, and especially to sing. The latter wasn't possible for a while – and this experience also shapes his upcoming album Uh Oh, which will be released at the end of September.
In the winter of 2023, he suddenly woke up and realized he had lost his voice. A blood vessel in his vocal cords had burst and he was unable to speak for three months. This moment now opens the new record.
A composer and songwriter who has written and recorded over a dozen film scores can also get by without his own voice for a while. “At some point, I thought, ‘If I can't rely on my own voice, I could write songs for all the singers I love.’” When his voice was finally fully functional again, it became a hybrid form: Watson often lets singers such as Charlotte Cardin, Martha Wainwright, MARO, La Force, and November Ultra take the lead, but he also sings along himself.
