Joyce Carol Oates: The Art of Writing

Lesung I internationales literaturfestival berlin

Joyce Carol Oates is one of the most significant contemporary American authors whose numerous novels and stories have received many awards, including the National Book Award, the O’Henry Prize, and the Lotus Club Award of Merit. Her latest novel »Night. Sleep. Death. The Stars« tells a family story: As he tries to defend a victim of racial profiling, retired Mayor Whitey gets tasered himself. His five children come together on the deathbed of the patriarch. Over several hundred pages, Oates’ book is seen »As a portrait of a family and a nation, it’s funny and tragic and sometimes bleak« [The Guardian]. In a conversation with poet and Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Hass, the author will provide insights into the strategies and influences of her storytelling in a changing world with its diverse challenges.

The event will be held in English. It has been pre-recorded.
