In Kooperation mit Schnick.Schnack.Schnuck präsentiert das silent green ein gemeinsames Konzert von Lori Goldston, Aidan Baker und Andrea Belfi. Gemeinsam werden die Musiker_innen den Stummfilm „Die Passion der Jungfrau von Orléans“ von Carl Theodor Dreyer aus dem Jahr 1928 neu vertonen. Auf ihrer Tour quer durch Europa ist dies das einzige Konzert in Berlin!

Der Film von Carl Theodor Dreyer (90 min, 16mm), der die letzten Stunden im Leben der Jeanne d’Arc erzählt, gilt als ein Meilenstein der Filmgeschichte. Goldston, Baker und Belfi versuchen, die Intention von Film und Filmemacher so in Musik zu übersetzen, dass Rhythmus und Stimmung der damaligen Schnittgrammatik für ein heutiges Publikum wieder erfahrbar werden.

Wir freuen uns, die 3 Musiker_innen mit diesem besonderen Projekt als Gäste bei uns im silent green in der Kuppelhalle mit ihrer einzigartigen Akustik und Atmosphäre begrüßen zu können.

Lori Goldston aus Seattle (USA) ist Cellistin, Komponistin, Produzentin und Autorin mit ruhlosem Geist, die ihre klassische Schule konsequent verlernt hat. Die Stimme ihres Cellos, ob verstärkt oder akustisch, ist satt, strukturiert und originär. Als unermüdliche Forscherin überquert sie unbekümmert Grenzen unterschiedlicher Genres, Zeiten und Orte und tritt in Clubs, Galerien und Konzertsälen ebenso auf, wie in Schuppen, Stadien oder beim Barbecue nebenan. Von 1993-1994 war Goldston mit Nirvana auf Tour und erschien auf deren Live-Album MTV Unplugged in New York. Sie ist Mitglied von Earth, The Black Cat Orchestra und Spectratone International.

Der kanadische Musiker Aidan Baker ist klassisch ausgebildeter Flötist und hat sich das Spielen von Gitarre, Schlagzeug und anderer Instrumente selbst beigebracht. Als Solomusiker lotet er die akustischen Möglichkeiten seiner Elektrogitarre aus und schafft dabei Musik, die sich irgendwo zwischen Experimental, Post-Rock und zeitgenössischer Klassik bewegt. Baker lebt zurzeit in Berlin.

Der Italiener Andrea Belfi ist elektro-akustischer Musiker, Schlagzeuger und Komponist. Seine Projekte und Kollaborationen sind weitläufig und reichen von Rock bis Elektroakustik, von Avant-Folk bishin zu radikaler Improvisation und von audiovisueller Performance bis zur Klanginstallation.

silent green Kulturquartier and Schnick.Schnack.Schnuck proudly present a collaboration between Lori Goldston, Aidan Baker und Andrea Belfi. Those three artists will collaborate on this evening to add a new soundtrack to the silentmovie  "The Passion of Joan of Arc" by Carl Theodor Dreyer from 1928. Touring across Europe, silent green is looking forward to welcome the three musicians for their only concert in Berlin!

Regarded as one of the landmarks of cinema in the first half of the 20th century, the film describes the last hours of Joan of Arc. Studying the film and the filmmaker, Goldston, Baker and Belfi use music to translate the movie’s original intent, helping people appreciate mood, pace and timing.

Classically trained and rigorously de-trained, possessor of a restless, semi-feral spirit, Lori Goldston is a cellist, composer, improvisor, producer, writer and teacher from Seattle. Her voice as a cellist, amplified or acoustic, is full, textured, committed and original. She was the touring cellist for Nirvana from 1993–1994 and appears on their live album MTV Unplugged in New York. She is a member of Earth, the Black Cat Orchestra, and Spectratone International.

Aidan Baker is a Canadian musician and writer currently based in Berlin, Germany. Classically trained in flute, he is self-taught on guitar, drums, and various other instruments. As a solo artist, Baker explores the deconstructive sonic possibilities of the electric guitar as a primary sound source, creating music that ranges from experimental to post-rock to contemporary classical.
