15 YEARS zweikommasieben: Steven Warwick & Jon Davies + spalarnia + zweikommasieben DJs

To celebrate their fifteenth anniversary, Swiss experimental music publication zweikommasieben is going on tour, visiting spaces, people, and institutions that they’ve worked with before, feel a connection to, or admire from afar.

For a night at silent green, zweikommasieben invites Berlin-based interdisciplinary artist Steven Warwick, also known as Heatsick, and Anna Homler from Los Angeles for two performances in the venue’s Kuppelhalle.

The two artists have been featured in issues #13 and #17 of zweikommasieben respectively, and they have a shared history with each other, too. Warwick has been a live-collaborator for Homler’s legendary “Breadwoman” performance, originally developed in the mid-eighties, where she sings in a strange language and a mysterious being adorned with bread all over her body traverses the stage.

Anna Homler’s work as a performance and improv artist covers a lot of alien bases: vocal work, an abundance of sound-making toys, and myriad collaborations form a practice that remains hard to pin down. Likewise, Steven Warwick is a man of many guises. He makes visual art, publishes books and zines, produces music for labels like PAN, and was part of the noise duo Birds Of Delay alongside Luke Younger aka Helm.

For this night at silent green, Homler and Warwick will present two solo performances, with some help of the zweikommasieben DJs.

The titular paradox of spalarnia's new album, Paradoks, lies in its ability to be both soft and intense. Incessant, hypnotic rhythms and massive synths are woven into a state of constant becoming, perpetually tense and earnest. Amidst these soundscapes—at times sparse, at times grandiose—spalarnia's voice oscillates between singing and speaking, seemingly calm and warm yet dark, like an underwater cave on a summer day where secrets can be shared.

In his Polish lyrics, spalarnia delves into themes of love, pleasure, desire, and the accompanying fears, abandonments, and emancipations. He crafts a world that is deeply personal and intimate, yet communal, euphoric, and hopeful. Like all sincere emotional landscapes, it is a paradoxical world.
