Musiqana – Syrian Tarab-Music from Berlin

Concert

MUSIQANA is a Syrian Tarab-Ensemble from Berlin. The band brings the atmosphere and music of their home country Syria – from before the war - to the concert space. Tarab means euphoria and as the name suggests, the musicians want to transport the audience through their highly poetic lyrics and beauty of their melodies into a state of musical euphoria.

The singer and the musicians evoke this in their performance. MUSIQANA are celebrated by the International Press als a symbol of the integrative power of music in Germany (New York Times, Associated Press, USA Today…)

The Syrian singer, Abdallah Rahhal, Syrian Oud player Alaa Zaitouna and Scottish arts manager Rachel Clarke founded the band together in January 2016. 30 concerts in 2016 culminated in a lunchtime concert at the Berlin Philharmonie in December and the release of their first CD El Helwa Di – The Beautiful One. Now very much at home in the Berlin music scene, they have been joined by Berliner percussionist Serdar Saydan and Lebanese-Greek drummer Markus Vassiliou, who both share the band’s love of Tarab music.

Please note: Before the concert there will be a tour of the exhibition BARE LIVES by Mario Rizzi taking place at Galerie Wedding at 3pm, followed by a walk to silent green Kulturquartier.
