The Belgian Wim Mertens is a composer and countertenor who plays piano and guitar. His compositions have great influences of American "Minimal Music" and live from the characteristic high countertenor voice. In a career spanning almost 40 years, Wim Mertens has written short, accessible songs, large-scale cycles and works for a wide variety of instrumentations. At silent green he sits accompanied by a violin at the piano. In the programme "That Which is Not" a recurring theme from Mertens' works is crystallized - the No and the Not. Wim Mertens tries to overcome this negative cliché by opening up promising perspectives.
