Soil – City – Solidarity: Urban Gardens for Co-creating New Cities

Talk

"Coop campus – Die Gärtnerei" – a cooperative volunteer based garden and school for newcomers, students and those having interest in gardening, art and educational workshops - was initiated by Raumlaborberlin and Schlesische 27 in cooperation with the Evangelische Friedhofsverband Berlin Stadtmitte. The experimental garden project started in 2015 and was based at the Jerusalem-Friedhof in Berlin-Neukölln and transformed part of the cemetery into a garden and a nursery. Run with and for people having recently arrived in Berlin via different routes from conflict zones, the project set out to co-create new urban spaces for everyone.

Fetewei Tarekegn will present the project and its development. Constanze Fischbeck will share her involvement as a filmmaker and her approach that led to the mobile video installation TERRA NOVA (2016) through excerpts of the work. Terra Nova was commissioned by Schlesische 27 and produced together with Sascha Bunge.
