Under the title Women Singers Project from the Arab World, AL. Berlin* presents a series of music events and seminars. The main idea is to give female singers and musicians from the Arab world the opportunity to perform their musical projects, supporting the contemporary music by female musicians from a music industry dominated by men.
The Palestinian singer, composer and oud-lute player Kamilya Jubran will start off with the presentation of her new album Wa (Arabic for and) along with her long-time musical partner, composer, trumpeter and electronic musician Werner Hasler. After more than 40 years of making music, Jubran and Hasler are now on tour. For both of them it is their third album together. The younger generation of the experimental and alternative Arabic music scene has celebrated Kamilya Jubran as a musical role model for years.
Support act is multi-instrumentalist and composer Khyam Allami. A musician and musicologist of Iraq, who is currently based in the UK. Allami is known as a contemporary player of the oud-lute. He works with the traditional Arabic music repertoire as well as contemporary compositions and interdisciplinary music.
