Shaun Tan: What Images Do We Need?

Lesung I internationales literaturfestival berlin

In »Tales from the Inner City«, board members turn into frogs at a meeting, and crocodiles lead a very comfortable life on the 87th floor unnoticed. In »Cicada«, a grey office worker transforms into a shimmering insect on the day of his retirement. The children’s books by this exceptional artist highlight, in a unique way, the expressiveness of the pictorial narrative. »Shaun Tan proves to be a universal narrator in this total work of art consisting of image and text, who succeeds in doing something extremely rare and precious: to make utopias shine brightly above the gloomy landscape of catastrophes of our time, so that we do not lose faith in them.« [SZ]

The event will be held in English. It has been pre-recorded.
