It's not too much to say that Courtney Marie Andrews is currently one of the biggest talents in the American singer/songwriter scene. Courtney has now released three great albums in a row, first Honest Life (2016) and May Your Kindness Remain (2018), both of which have already received excellent reviews, and now as a temporary highlight Old Flowers in 2020. This very emotional and intense work, produced by Big Thief producer Andrew Sarlo, was nominated for the Grammy in the category "Best Americana Album" in early 2021. It is a classic break-up album in which Courtney Marie Andrews deals with the separation from her long-time partner:
"Old Flowers is about heartbreak. There are a million records and songs about that, but I did not lie when writing these songs. This album is about loving and caring for the person you know you can't be with. It's about being afraid to be vulnerable after you've been hurt. It's about a woman who is alone, but okay with that, if it means truth. (...) These songs came to me alone, late nights in Bisbee, Lisbon, Nashville, and London. Sometimes I'd just cry and sing, and a song would come out. I drank too much wine while writing this record, lit too many candles."
