CTM 2023: CAN and Me

Film screening & Talk

What does sound mean? What does silence mean? The documentary film »CAN and ME« offers an intimate look into the life and work of Irmin Schmidt, founder of the Cologne-based band CAN, widely hailed as pioneers of the German krautrock scene, which shaped generations of musicians in pop and electronic music.

Schmidt, now 85 years old, has reinvented himself again and again; the film follows his path from classical conductor to student of Stockhausen and Ligeti to CAN, and then further on to film music for Wim Wenders and Roland Klick, opera, and electronic club music. Including rare, partly private photo and video recordings from a time that now seems very exotic, colorful, and crazy this biopic »makes you want to travel back in time and gives you the chance to have been there.« – Sunburnsout.

Following the screening, Irmin Schmidt and director Michael P. Aust will deepen the insights of the film in a panel discussion and answer questions from the audience.
