Nyokabi Kariũki
Nyokabi Kariũki is a Kenyan composer, sound artist, and artistic researcher. Her sonic imagination is ever-evolving, spanning across various genres from classical contemporary to experimental electronic music, explorations in sound art, pop, film, (East) African musical traditions and more. She performs with the piano, voice, electronics, and on several instruments from the African continent — particularly on kalimbas and the mbira. Nyokabi’s work, going from her acclaimed EP peace places: kenyan memories (SA Recordings) to her debut album FEELING BODY (cmntx records), have been described as “deft” (The Quietus) and “transcendent” (The Guardian), she is considered a decisive voice in contemporary composition and experimental music. She seeks to create meaningful and challenging art, illuminated by a commitment to the preservation and reflection on African thought, language and stories.
The Growth Eternal
The Growth Eternal is a spiritual bass & vocoder music project. Tulsa, Oklahoma native ghalani started the project in 2018 for their mental health, feeling disillusioned with college jazz academia while trying to connect with their ancestral lineage. They started making music with plants to shine a light on plant's self-sovereignty and give praise to the wisdom of plant life. ghalani's music textures take you on an emotional journey, using sound as medicine by weaving through genres in a way that feels grounded and refreshingly innovative at the same time.
With his eclectic bass work and innovative use of vocoders, ghalani brings a unique layer to Sudan Archives's fusion of R&B, electronic, and experimental folk and André 3000’s ambient, jazz-infused instrumental live performances.
