Kia (DJ-set)
Cirrus is the new sublabel of Animalia, the ever-growing colourful and diverse platform for local and international talent. With Animalia, label boss Kia has already created a global network of forward-thinking producers, with Cirrus she now wants to promote lesser-known artists from Melbourne with a focus on non-club, downtempo and ambient and otherworldly sounds.
Kia
Kia has a taste-making ear for digging, sophisticated knack for storytelling and bubbling energy that draws people to her whether she’s backstage, behind the decks or on the dance floor. The DJ and curator wields atmospheric and psychedelic sounds that produce entire pulsating worlds through the speakers and between global connections. As label boss of Animalia and Cirrus, she is a Naarm/Melbourne local who’s one of the influences driving organic, kaleidoscopic shades of electronic music around the world. Behind the decks, she’s a master of playing to her surroundings, in a context-driven connection of time, space and sound.
OK EG
Composed of producers Matthew Wilson and Lauren Squire, OK EG’s strident sound melds rhythm, bass and analogue synth. Known for their hardware-based live sets, the pair spiral around unpredictable patterns and interlocking grooves, encapsulating the unhinged energy of the Melbourne underground. Their latest release, Rivulets – out now on Amsterdam based label Kalahari Oyster Cult – is a deep dive into peak-time rave hypnotism, heads-down mind trips and transportive otherworldly electronics.
Tangerine
Anyone who knows Clementine Girard-Foley aka Tangerine would quickly think to her humility and talent, which make her Tangerine project so special. Sie has become known for cutting edge live electronic sets (& producing individual tracks) which span from ambient electronica to industrial techno, somehow in a deep, classy and seamless fashion. Her DJ sets never fail to reveal a unique and exciting curation of dance floor songs and beyond. Tangerine’s debut EP First Breath (2022) is a medley of trance, psy, IDM, drum and bass and experimental electronic music.
Tikiman & Richard Akingbehin
Rhythm & Sound vocalist Paul St. Hilaire aka Tikiman, performs together with Kynant Records owner Richard Akingbehin.
Paul St. Hilaire (aka Tikiman) moved from the Caribbean island Dominica to Berlin in 1994 and has lent both his voice and his musicianship to some of the most iconic electronic music from the German capital – and beyond. He recently released his first solo album in 17 years on Kynant Records. Richard Akingbehin, British-Nigerian DJ behind Kynant Records, expertly merges techno, dub, and experimental genres, cultivating a realm of musical innovation where limits are continually redefined. Beyond the studio, Akingbehin co-founded Berlin's Refuge Worldwide, a community radio station amplifying diverse voices in electronic music, promoting inclusivity and representation.
