The Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight
1983 / 4.30 mins / U.S. / OV / Beth B
A gang of leather-clad powerful women takes over a traditionally male domain. Hairspray, skin and eyeliner are on full display in Beth B's music video for the Arthur Baker-produced New York City club hit from 1984. Deemed to have been too racy for New York Hot Tracks, it was banned at the time and found its way into the Museum of Modern Art's permanent collection instead.
Salvation! Have You Said Your Prayers Today?
1987 / 80 mins / U.S. / OV / Beth B
This parody of televangelism (released just before the real-life scandals of evangelists Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggart) stars a young Viggo Mortensen, Exene Cervenka (from the band “X”), Stephen McHattie and Dominique Davalos (from the band Dominatrix). Salvation! is a fascinating time capsule of the 1980s with a wonderful soundtrack comprised of songs by Cabaret Voltaire, Arthur Baker, New Order and others.
