Berliner Book Premiere: Jasmin Schreiber presents her new novel »Da, wo ich dich sehen kann«
Nine-year-old Maja is growing up in a broken home—a tyrannical father, a loving but oppressed mother, and in between, a silence filled with unanswered questions. When Frank, Maja’s father, kills her mother, he tears a hole in the world—not only for Maja, but for everyone left behind. In an instant, everything changes: amid grief, custody battles, and bureaucracy, Maja becomes a pawn, losing her family, her home, her sense of safety, and the certainty of where she belongs.
Her godmother Liv becomes Maja’s only ray of hope. Liv, an astrophysicist, sparks Maja’s fascination with the wonders of the universe. At the same time, she struggles with her own insecurities, old fears, and the overwhelming task of suddenly having to take responsibility for a child. And yet, Liv and Maja grow closer—through the lens of a telescope and their shared search for answers in the vastness of space, answers no one else can give them.
A novel like a star on the horizon—Jasmin Schreiber shows that even in the deepest darkness, comfort can still be found. Her story blends a gripping fascination with the cosmos and the raw process of grief. Told from multiple perspectives, it reveals a family in crisis and a society still failing to confront the structural roots of violence.
