Vocations – open space: With Music and Poetry from Ukraine
As a meeting point for Berlin’s international contemporary poetry and music scene, Vocations offers a stage for artists exploring a wide range of musical and vocal practices that are based on or deeply rooted in poetry. Vocations invites poets, musicians, and audiences alike to engage in creative exchange—whether on stage, over a drink between performances, or as a way to round off the evening.
A special edition of Vocations features the award-winning vocal ensemble Alter Ratio counted among the most exciting formations for contemporary vocal music worldwide. Under the direction of Olga Prykhodko the ensemble is dedicated to the world premiere of contemporary works by Ukrainian composers, and on this evening, in addition to pieces by Maxim Kolomiiets and Alla Zagaykevych from their recent project Lux Aeterna. REVOICE. Psalms of Falling / Псалми падіння, it will perform a newly commissioned work by Oleksiia Suk.
The German-Ukrainian Poesiekollektiv Landschaft combines music, verse, and film. Grigory Semenchuk, Sascha Conrad, and Ulrike Almut Sandig “create something cheerful, conjuring up the idea of home in order to hear of another, to diminish the sense of being with oneself” (SZ). Texts by Lyuba Yakimchuk, Volodymyr Sosjura, as well as original works, will be presented.
The evening is further enriched by Ganna Gryniva, the Ukrainian singer and songwriter, with her own compositions and settings of Ukrainian poetry. Together, they create an open space for encounter and exchange.

Vocations –open space is an event series organised by Haus für Poesie in cooperation with Junge Akademie, Akademie der Künste, silent green Kulturquartier, the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program, and Cultural Foundation Schloss Wiepersdorf and in 2025 is funded by the Hauptstadtkulturfonds.
