Arsenal presents: Künstlerinnenprogramm of the Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt

For the 13th time, the Arsenal presents film projects by female scholarship holders who have been supported by the Künstlerinnenprogramm of the Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt .

The programme will open on October 30th with Antonia Cattan's first feature film Cuitá, stone from the sky.

The Künstlerinnenprogramm offers female filmmakers and artists living in Berlin a valuable opportunity to receive support in the development and realization of their projects. It serves as a refuge that gives space to diverse artistic voices and allows them to flourish.

In workshop discussions, artistic positions and practices are reflected upon, allowing for ruptures and ambiguities. Many of the supported works examine hegemonic narratives, engage with the interplay of memory and history and their necessary re-evaluation, and seek new impulses for the perception and experience of history and stories in the face of global crises. The focus is on critically questioning dominant ideological attributions, as well as exploring the potential of peripheral topics and collaborative working methods as acts of artistic resistance.

Cuitá, stone from the sky
Germany / Brazil 2025

In the backlands of Brazil, local youngsters from the town of Canudos participate in a casting test and reveal what they would like to tell in the film. From there, they act out episodes from the Canudos war and the saga of the Bendegó meteorite, found in the region and regarded as a ‘sacred stone’. Through the filmmaking that crosses their routines, they reflect on their past, their identity, and the possibilities of the present in their harsh reality.
