Splitter Site Specific Part 4: Splitter Orchester
The Splitter Orchester returns to the iconic Kuppelhalle of silent green for the fourth and final edition of its site-specific concert series. The ensemble has performed in this unique architectural space before – and those who attended in November 2019 know what to expect. At that time, the orchestra was arranged across the balconies of the Kuppelhalle, forming two concentric circles stacked above the heads of the audience. This configuration allowed for a transparent perception of sound throughout the space, both for the musicians and the listeners. Along multiple listening axes, a monumental piece of music unfolded – a performance that is still regarded by some as one of the best Splitter concerts ever. The recording of Vortex was released on the 3CD compilation splitter musik in 2024 on the Hyperdelia label.
Although completely improvised, the music was strangely accompanied by the sensation that it wasn’t improvised at all – but rather a sensitively conceived work, emerging in the moment through the collective consciousness of those present.
The Splitter Orchester’s return to the Kuppelhalle is not about recreating that special moment, but rather about re-approaching the space with the distance of the past six years. The world and the orchestra have changed radically since 2019 – nothing is as it was. This mindset, combined with a venue that is perfectly suited to experience the sheer musical force of the Splitter Orchester, is the recipe for a truly special evening – marking the conclusion of the ensemble’s site-specific concert series in 2025.
