Avant Art Festival Berlin: Rożynek, Korzeniecka, Janicki, Papior + Antonina Nowacka + Drew McDowall & Pedro Maia (A/V)

Polish Art Week / 7. Avant Art Festival 2026 Berlin is an interdisciplinary programme dedicated to contemporary experimental practices in music, performance, and audiovisual art. This year’s edition brings together artists from Poland and international independent scenes, presenting projects rooted in collaboration, improvisation, and the crossing of genre boundaries.

Alongside concerts and performances, the festival includes educational activities and community-oriented events, approaching culture as a space for encounter and exchange.

One of the concert evenings will take place on June 25 in the Kuppelhalle. We are pleased to welcome the following artists to our stage:

19:00–19:45: Rożynek, Korzeniecka, Janicki, Papior (PL)
20:00–20:45: Antonina Nowacka
21:00–21:45: Drew McDowall & Pedro Maia (A/V)

Rożynek, Korzeniecka, Janicki, Tymek Papior (PL)
This collaborative project brings together artists operating across contemporary composition, improvisation, electroacoustic music, and experimental sound design. Combining acoustic instruments, electronics, prepared objects, and digital processing, the ensemble creates layered structures balancing spontaneity and compositional precision. Tymek Papior’s distinctive approach, merging modified instruments, field recordings, distorted electronics, and improvisation, contributes to a sonic language rooted in texture, tension, and multidimensional listening.

Teoniki Rożynek
Composer, born in 1991 in Krakow. Lives in Warsaw. She creates both instrumental, electroacoustic and electronic music. She plays violin, electronics and waste. Her works have been performed at various festivals, including the Warsaw Autumn, Musica Electronica Nova, Sacrum Profanum, Unsound, Containerclang (Cologne) or Bedingo International Festival of Exploratory Music.

Dominika Korzeniecka
Drummer, self-taught. Since the beginning of her artistic practice, she has been connected with the “Borderland of Arts, Cultures and Nations” Centre in Sejny; co-founder of the Sejny Jazz Cooperative, where she collaborates with musicians such as Mikołaj Trzaska, Wacław Zimpel, Raphael Rogiński, Hubert Zemler, as well as with the LADO ABC label. She is the drummer of the Klezmer Orchestra of the Sejny Theatre, Ejbikie Mame, Tania O, Pochwalone, and Banda Dzeta.

Qba Janicki
Composer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer emerging from the vibrant artistic community surrounding the MÓZG club. Over the past 17 years, he has performed extensively throughout Europe and beyond, collaborating with visionary artists such as Roscoe Mitchell, Jerzy Mazzoll, Sławek Janicki, Tomasz Sroczyński, Toshinori Kondo, Peter Brötzmann, Mats Gustafsson, Teoniki Rożynek, and Grischa Lichtenberger.

Tymek Papior
Multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer. Using an arsenal of prepared instruments, such as a modified drum kit, his younger sister's harp, a broken accordion, and lo-fi field recordings, Tymek Papior augments his unique acoustic
soundscapes and juxtaposes them with heavily distorted, raw digital sounds and synthesizers, combining electroacoustic sound design and improvisation into compositions full of different textures and spaces. His approach is best heard on his solo albums Rugs/Carpets 2024 and WSPÓLNA SPRAWA LP (2026).

Antonina Nowacka (PL)
Antonina Nowacka is a vocalist, composer and sound artist whose work explores the relationship between voice, space, resonance, and environmental listening. Moving between experimental music, minimalist composition, and intuitive vocal practices, she creates immersive sonic environments built from layered harmonics, extended vocal techniques and subtle acoustic textures. Her performances unfold as deeply atmospheric experiences situated between meditative abstraction and embodied listening.

Drew McDowall & Pedro Maia (USA/PT)
Drew McDowall and Pedro Maia present a live audiovisual performance based on McDowall’s latest album A Thread, Silvered and Trembling (Dais Records, 2024). A pioneering figure of experimental music and former member of the legendary groups Psychic TV and Coil, McDowall has spent decades developing a singular sonic language situated between modular electronics, electroacoustic composition, and psychedelic abstraction. His music unfolds through layered textures, fragmented samples, and shifting harmonic tensions that balance intimacy with cosmic scale.

Created in collaboration with Portuguese filmmaker Pedro Maia, the performance combines McDowall’s immersive sound environments with Maia’s analog and cross-media visual practice, blending classical film techniques with contemporary moving-image experimentation. Together, they construct a hypnotic audiovisual experience oscillating between hallucination, ritual, and cinematic dream states.
