Helena Deland

Helena Deland is a Montreal-based musician interested in how songs can give expression to what eludes everyday language.

She has toured extensively across North America and Europe, opening for Weyes Blood, Andy Shauf, Connan Mockasin, Soccer Mommy, and Iggy Pop.

Her debut album, Someone New, was released on Luminelle Recordings in 2020, followed by Hildegard, a collaborative album with Montreal-based musician Ouri. In October 2023, she released her acclaimed second album, Goodnight Summerland. Deland’s third solo album, Eternity Shrugs, out January 22, 2027, on Chivi Chivi, builds on the electronic density of Someone New and the grief-inflected folk of Goodnight Summerland.

Eternity Shrugs was recorded in stages over the course of four seasons in rural Quebec and co-produced by Deland with her longtime bandmates Francis Ledoux and Alexandre Larin, alongside Lysandre Ménard and Cedric Martel, who have been part of the band for years. Piano, bass, organ, Rhodes, viola, and woodwinds frame her voice and guitar in patient arrangements anchored by finely textured percussion. Her songs shift between restraint and subtle embellishment. Deland imagines the album’s palette in shades of brown: wood, leather, smoke. The music is warm and alive, yet never quite settles.

In February 2027, Deland will perform an exclusive German show with her band at silent green in Berlin.
