Progetto Positano: Zeynep Toraman + Bertram Wee

For this year’s PROGETTO POSITANO, ensemble mosaik has selected composers Betram Wee and Zeynep Toraman.

Each year, the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation enables two composers to spend two months working at Villa Kempff in Positano, Italy, and to present their compositions with ensemble mosaik in Berlin.

Zeynep Toraman is an Istanbul-born composer and scholar based in Berlin. In her practice-based research, she explores how texts can interact within the broader framework of musical compositions, treating her personal library as an archive and incorporating it into her work.

Singapore-based composer and keyboardist Bertram Wee writes music that places being at its centre. Engaging with concepts such as presence, friction, materiality, and excess, his compositional practice understands the body as a site of mediation through which sound takes shape. He strives to create music deeply rooted in physical experience.

Alongside existing works, ensemble mosaik looks forward to developing and presenting two world premieres by the composers at silent green.
