Burnt Friedman & João Pais Filipe + Bryozone
silent green presents
Since 2018, João Pais Filipe (on drums) and Burnt Friedman (electronics/synth) have been exploring automatic composition together, in which principles of rhythmic phenomena are discovered and music is detached from cultural idioms. The result of their 4-year investigation is the EP Mechanics Of Waving.
João Pais Filipe is a drummer/percussionist and sound sculptor from Porto. In addition to collaborating with Friedman on Automatic Music and as a solo percussionist, he also performs under CZN and HHY & the Macumbas. On his journey of international tours and festivals, he also dedicates himself to Gong-Making, Cymbal-Smithing and other metal percussion instruments. In this way he explores the acoustic properties and potential imagery of these objects.
Burnt Friedman also studied the pictorial quality of objects during his art studies, but then he concentrated on music. Today, he is one of the most established German artists in the field of music and is committed to eliminating prejudices against the authenticity of programmed music. In 2000, Friedman founded his own record label Nonplace. Remarkable musical collaborations with artists such as Jaki Liebezeit, Hayden Chisholm, Root70, AtomTM, Steve Jansen and David Sylvian have emerged.
Bryozone
As Bryozone, Odessa-based sound artist Ganna Bryzhata – otherwise the bassist in the band Chillera – released her debut album Eye Of Delirious (Muscut) in 2023 after various EPs over a period of 10 years. An ambient LP like a gently flowing, sub-nautical journey that mixes elements of industrial dub with the songs of the grlowing sirens of the Black Sea. Bryozone's ethereal, shape-shifting electro-acoustic experiments are equally suited to blissful tranquillity and deep melancholy.
