Shovel Dance Collective
Shovel Dance Collective are a group of nine musicians united by a passion for the beauty, force, and political charge of the traditional musics of Britain, Ireland and beyond. They are committed to Folk music not as an archaeological artifact to be unearthed, but as a living communal activity - inviting and generous to those it speaks to. They arrange the source material into a kind of musique boue (mud music), simultaneously traditional and experimental they engage a deep, cross-temporal synthesis of free improvisation, tape manipulation and field recordings. Their music appears as a patchwork as pieces are stitched together, rearranged and recontextualised. The yarn is threaded with their sense of aesthetic innovation, and with a deep sense of the ways in which traditional music holds the voices of the oppressed and those who, by their labour, create the wealth of the world.
The collective have appeared at many major festivals: Glastonbury, Roskilde, SXSW, Rewire, Green Man, End of the Road, Sidmouth Folk Festival, Supernormal and Supersonic festivals among others. Publications such as The Wire, Loud and Quiet, NME, Financial Times and The Times have heralded their live performances across the years.
Their second album The Shovel Dance was released in October 2024 by American Dreams Records .
Tennota & Rosa Anschütz
In conversation and private sessions, this collaboration began in 2022, finally displaying in 2025 as Tornamented Walls. On these recordings Anschütz sings, speaks, plays harmonium and utilises a looper as an instrument in itself. Her symbolic prose is at the heart of the music; emotionally direct yet haunted by a translucent potential of meaning. In lockstep with the voice, Tennota dissolve the dense rhythmic complexity of their recent work into a creeping mantra, the material interrogated until the patina of the sound is the music itself.
Tennota is the London-based duo of Tom Wheatley & Grundik Kasyansky. The project began in 2019, to reimagine the relationship of physical and digital worlds through music. They take primary materials - gut strings, sine waves, tree sap, feedback - and they flex them over contemporary technologies into an elemental suspension. Not futuristic, but rather an alternative present. Previous records were released on Accidental Meetings and Café OTO’s TakuRoku label.
Rosa Anschütz is a Berlin-based artist and musician whose sound-based practice is framed by sculpture, installation, and scenography. Her meditative and sometimes haunting compositions combine the dark ambience of post-punk and cold wave with ethereal polyphony, synth-driven melodies and spoken word.
Tornamented Walls is a freeze-frame of emergence: notwithstanding personal preparations prior and minor shaping after, the album was live and improvised. The question of how to re-render this moment publicly is the basis of its performances.
