Avant Art Festival Berlin: DO 555ps AV + Czajka & Puchacz
The Polish Art Week / 6th Avant Art Festival Berlin is a new, interdisciplinary cultural event taking place in Berlin from 16 to 23 June 2025, as part of the cultural program accompanying Poland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The festival aims to showcase cutting-edge Polish contemporary and avant-garde art, while also creating a space for critical reflection on the role of culture in a rapidly changing Europe.
Spanning seven days and multiple venues across Berlin, the program will feature concerts, exhibitions, audiovisual installations, talks, debates, and performance art, highlighting both renowned and emerging artists from Poland and other European countries.
One of the concert evenings will take place on June 22 in the Kuppelhalle. We are pleased to welcome the following artists to our stage:
Czajka & Puchacz (SI/PL)
The Slovenian based duo Czajka & Puchacz released their first, predominantly acoustic album Bivališča in July 2020, and followed up with a retro-avant-pop single Entschuldigung of their alter duo Kiebitz & Uhu a year later. Since their second release, which explored experimental songwriting within a field of existentialism and abstraction of daily life, the pair has continued exploring ways to merge instant songwriting with the aesthetics of European school of free improvisation and the idiom of musique concrete present on Bivališča.
DO 555ps AV: Jerzy Mączyński & Katarzyna Dębska w/ Rabih Beaini, Nour Sokhon
Expanded visually by Katarzyna Dębska, a version of Jerzy Mączyński’s album DO 555ps evolves into a multichannel audiovisual piece. It's a tour de force of galactic sound design and imagery, blending drone, minimalism, and the rich history of sci-fi soundtracks into a suite of astral proportions.
Based on sopranino and tenor saxophone samples, the layered compositions blend Mączyński’s acoustic textures with Dębska’s mix of photos, videos, and 3D visuals into uncanny forms that shift through time and space.
The performance will be joined in the second part by Rabih Beaini and Nour Sokhon adding new layers of sounds and text.
