West Mineral Ltd. pres. Huerco S. + Perila

silent green presents

Huerco S.
Fueled by an ethos less bound by genre and more bound by feeling, Brian Leeds makes music for the mind and for the floor, finding lost artifacts and carving out sounds that speak to an altered state of home, or place. Music that plays tricks on your brain, music that makes you question or surrender your mind, music very much rooted in audio archaeology and personal exploration.

Coming out from playing punk and metal bands as a teenager in Kansas, Brian picked up dance music. His fast-evolving works as Huerco S. worked with a sonic palette of recontextualisation, low fidelity, and a subtle sense of humor long missing from the genre. The hazy and insistent fug of samples and synths on his debut album Colonial Patterns blurred the lines between the dance floor and liminal space.

His later ambient works, both as Huerco S. and as Pendant, marked a shift away from the club and into a smeared landscape with no clear horizon, channeling an uncertain, but welcoming feeling: neither dread nor relaxation, but somewhere in between.

These feelings have been further developed on his label, West Mineral Ltd. The releases sometimes stay in this same beatless space, and other times reaching blistering tempos, riding waves of emotion and descending into calming spaces that sound frenetic and neurotic but allow the mind to wander while in the dance.

Perila
Perila is a St. Petersburg-born, Berlin-based sound and visual artist, DJ, performer and poet exploring sensitive borderlines and depths of subtle matter. Her practice centres around textures, tangibility and spatiality of field recorded sound, raw emotions, voice, poetry, body and change. Music as a healing and transformative agent; an invitation to open other layers of engagement with reality by means of deep listening, observation, presence and mutual dialogue with an audience.

Her performances and DJ sets are dense and intense narratives drifting through a rich sonic palette immersing a listener into a personal and sensual trip, while delicate poetry and soft voice breathe with a sense of closeness, desire and release. She aims to create other sound worlds to get lost and find oneself, to challenge and overcome boundaries and share this expansion with the Other.

Perila’s works have been released on Smalltown Supersound, Sferic, The Trilogy Tapes, Shelter Press, Longform Editions, Motion Ward, 3XL, Paralaxe Editions, Vaagner, Boomkat and Lillerne Tapes. She is the founder of WET: an online community featuring sensual podcasts with spoken word, poetry, ASMR, field recordings, and explorations of sonic sexuality. She is also a co-founder of radio.syg.ma.
