arsenal on location – Summer cinema: Bildnis einer Trinkerin. Aller jamais retour

silent green presents

The new Arsenal in silent green will open in January – in a cold winter month. That's why we are already inviting you to open-air screenings to present the outdoor area in the warm sunshine. Each of the three July evenings will begin with a short guided tour and a refreshing drink – an opportunity to share thoughts and open questions about the new location. The move from Potsdamer Platz to Wedding continues to have an impact, and so we are presenting three films from three generations about moving to Berlin, moving through Berlin or moving away from Berlin.

BILDNIS EINER TRINKERIN – ALLER JAMAIS RETOUR
Ulrike Ottinger
FRG 1979, OV with English subtitles 107‘
With guided tour and introduction at 9 pm, film starts at 9:30 pm

Ulrike Ottinger's stylised, composed feature film enables a sightseeing tour through Berlin, an exploration of the city's topography along a special route: the nameless traveller (Tabea Blumenschein), who arrives at Tegel Airport, only wants to pursue her passion, drinking, undisturbed.

Rich, a stranger in Berlin and hiding her feelings like a mask, she deliberately drinks herself to death, accompanied by Lutze, the drinker from the zoo, poor, familiar with her surroundings and open-hearted, who drinks herself to death rather unconsciously. On their tours, they meet musicians, writers and artists, including Nina Hagen, Kurt Raab, Volker Spengler, Günther Meisner, Martin Kippenberger, Eddie Constantine, Wolf and Mercedes Vostell. Three ladies with the names ‘social questions’, ‘common sense’ and ‘exact statistics’ play the role of goddesses of destiny in a managed, technologised, standardised world shaped by mass media.
