arsenal on location – Summer cinema: Janine zieht aufs Land

silent green presents

The new Arsenal in silent green will open in January – in a cold winter month. That's why we are already inviting you to open-air screenings to present the outdoor area in the warm sunshine. Each of the three July evenings will begin with a short guided tour and a refreshing drink - an opportunity to share thoughts and open questions about the new location. The move from Potsdamer Platz to Wedding continues to have an impact, and so we are presenting three films from three generations that are about moving to Berlin, moving through Berlin or moving away from Berlin.

JANINE ZIEHT AUFS LAND
Jan Eilhardt
GER 2025 74‘
With guided tour and introduction at 9 pm, film starts at 9:30 pm

The most recent film in the programme celebrated its premiere at the 55th Berlinale Forum: "In order to resist the contempt back then, I often imagined that the village was a shining stage. And now I want to go back to the village." Janine's decision is made. Together with her asthmatic partner, she turns her back on Berlin. But her queer appearance does not only evoke positive associations on the lifeless village streets. Coming to terms with his own past in the provinces, Jan Eilhardt weaves a selection of private video clips and photos into his film, which show that Janine has been with him for a long time. Just like the memory of his mother Brigitte, who recognised growing up in the village as an important test: rural stigmatisation as a German Little Rock. A path that also awaits his neighbour Peter, who lives with his overburdened mother and brother Enrico. Janine's arrival fuels his longings, but also means stepping out into the world, fraught with fears.

Jan Eilhardt translates the encounter into a camp, eroticising and at times dramatic panoramic view of a hostile milieu. Confronting old wounds, Janine infiltrates them lasciviously, musically and with the confidence of someone who has never had to prove anything to herself. (Carolin Weidner)
