Breathing Matter(s): Field Recording Workshop – Sonic Perspectivism
silent green presents
Workshop with Mélia Roger & Grégoire Chauvot
In this workshop, we will explore the subtle and often overlooked sonic layers of our everyday environment. What if we could hear like a rock, or tune in through the ears of a bird? Using a range of microphones and recording techniques, we’ll shift our perspective beyond the human, listening underwater, underground, and outside our usual hearing range.
Working in small groups (2–3 people), we’ll experiment with these extended forms of perception, culminating in a collective sound performance shaped by what we’ve discovered.
The workshop will be held in English.
Bios
Mélia Roger (*1996, she/her, FR) is a sound artist committed to inspiring ecological change through environmental and empathic listening. Her work delves into the sonic poetics of landscapes, revealing the invisible layers between human and non-human worlds. She is currently a practice-based PhD candidate at Le Fresnoy, where she explores the connections between sound art and acoustic ecology.
Chauvot (*1992, FR) is a field recordist and sound designer for film, dedicated to storytelling through sound. Deeply interested in the voices of wildlife, his practice reflects a concern for the impact of anthropophony on non-human life.
Together, they collaborate with HAL-Audio, developing immersive sound libraries in 7.0.2 for Dolby Atmos mixing environments, with a shared commitment to ecological awareness through sound.
