Pushing traditional instruments to the edge of their sonic possibilities, Tuce Alba and Mo’ong & Bilawa close this edition of Sintonia. 

Tuce Alba explores the possibilities of sound through a visual and spatial inquiry to sound which is both raw and emotional. Her experimentation with the ney and modular synthesis presents a refreshing perspective on traditional instrumental techniques. Mo'ong Santoso Pribadi and Bilawa Ade Respati present an audiovisual experience of post-gamelan music that includes algorithmically generated sounds, processed samples, and large clusters of synthetic drones. Their energy-loaded collaboration opens the instrument’s tuning systems into a shifting synthetic field of audiovisual saturation.
 

Tuce Alba is an architect, musician, and sound artist based in Berlin. Her practice focuses on sound as a material for constructing temporal and spatial experiences. Her works investigate slow transformation, minimal movement, and the physicality of sonic texture. In live performances, she builds raw, heavy noise, distortion, deep bass, and feedback. No melody, no softness, just pure energy. Each performance is thus both a spiritual and physical encounter, meant to be felt as much as heard. As a lifelong ney player, she expands the instrument’s possibilities by combining it with electronics and modular synthesis; exploring how traditional sounds can be reworked, fragmented, and transformed while still staying connected to their roots.

'Mo'ong & Bilawa' is the work of Indonesian musicians Bilawa Ade Respati – a multi-disciplinary artist drawing influences from everything from engineering to the performing arts; from European music tradition to the art of Javanese Karawitan – and Mo’ong Pribadi, best known for his experimental music and instrument building in the bands Raja Kirik and Takkak Takkak. Putting aside their individual practices, they engage in dialogues to create a playful and syncretic musical output: all the cacophonies of life audible and to be embraced from this game for two.
