Max Jitter Workshop

Tatsuru Arai welcomes you to the Max Jitter Workshop, which is for the total beginner as well as for the seasoned pro. He is looking forward to meeting you in person!

The workshop mainly focusses on A.I.-generated visual from photo (for example flowers). The goal is to be able to generate special video and sound effects using A.I. and algorithms on any of the photos.

Please bring your own laptop and install Max Jitter/MAX8 in advance.

The workshop will be held in English.
Registration required (max. 10 participants).


January 17, 5–8pm
Day 1: Introduction

Tatsuru Arai talks about his musical background as well as the history of ”Hyper Serial Music” and ”TRANS AGES Music”. In addition, he will tell his point of view about the concept of Face of Universe about ecology, civilization and technology. Moreover, he will explain the basic methods of Max Jitter. You will learn how to generate images and sounds based on basic operation methods and programming basics.


January 18, 2–5pm
Day 2: Instancing & Integration

Instancing: Visuals and sounds are generated by programming A.I. and algorithms from photographs of real flowers. At the end, you will receive the original patch and sample. Additionally, he will demonstrate his creative method, which combines other OpenAI technologies with Max Jitter in a flexibel way.

Integration: You will learn the basic methods used by Tatsuru Arai, such as masking flower photos, simple A.I. Painting, and Algorithmic sound generation.


January 19, 2–5 pm
Day 3: Own project

On the last day, you will work on your own project, creating visuals/sounds based on your own photos. The photos don't have to be of flowers, but Tatsuru will provide you with some basic materials on Google Drive. He will also showcase the mapping methods for installations at exhibitions as well as its practical use live in concert/performance using Max Jitter.
